Intel CEO Reveals Initiative To Incorporate Artificial Intelligence Into All Products

In 2023, artificial intelligence (AI) has become a hot topic, leading major technology companies to strengthen their dedication to adopting AI in the coming years. Notably, Google’s PaLM 2 large language model and OpenAI’s GPT-4 have attracted numerous businesses to participate in the AI competition. Additionally, US chipmaker Intel has recently revealed its intention to incorporate AI into all of its products, focusing on the hardware aspect.

As reported by The Verge, during Intel’s Q2 2023 earnings call, CEO Pat Gelsinger laid out the company’s plans to increase its focus on AI-centric development moving forward. “Across the spectrum of consumer, developer and business efficiency use cases, we’re seeing a wealth of AI offerings and they’re customer-centric,” Gelsinger said.

He added: “Whether it’s a customer, whether it’s a retail, manufacturing and industrial top platform or an enterprise data center, they can’t sustain their own 10 megawatt farm.”

The effects of this artificial intelligence will be seen as soon as the end of this year. Intel plans to ship its 14th generation Meteor Lake chipsets by the end of this year – the company’s first chipsets to include built-in neural processors for machine learning tasks.

According to Intel, the Meteor Lake chipsets are the first client processors to be manufactured on the new Intel 4 process node. This means they are manufactured using a smaller and more efficient manufacturing process, which can lead to better computing power, efficiency and better graphics performance. And the Meteor Lake chipsets are the first to have their own AI engine called Intel AI Boost.

This focus on artificial intelligence comes after two consecutive quarters of losses, but the company has returned to profit – as seen in its second quarter earnings report.
